Hello Martin researchers,
Over the last month I’ve been trying to fill in several gaps of data for my Martin family and specifically the lines for the women in my family. I mapped the movement west for several family units and along the way I realized I am a First Family of multiple states! I’m now in the process of gathering the documents to prove each location.
There are several states I’m tackling first – these are the easy ones where I have proof.
- Oklahoma, Twin Territories. My great grandparents, Frank Robinson and Lura Maud Woods were married in Indian Territory Oklahoma in 1904. In 1907 the “Twin Territories” became one and merged into Oklahoma. Their daughter Winifred married Wilson Robert Martin.
- Kansas: There are multiple levels of pioneers for Kansas. My great grandmother Lura Woods was born in Kansas in 1887. That qualifies for the Early Settler category.
- Missouri: my great, great grandfather, Charles Robinson, was born in Missouri in 1859 which qualifies for the Pioneer category.
- Illinois: Eliza J. Hagan born in Illinois in 1832 and married to George Woods in 1849, qualifies for the Prairie Pioneer Certificate
- Arkansas: Joel C. and Thomas D. Martin moved to Arkansas in 1850, qualifies for the Antebellum Certificate.
- Tennessee: This one’s already in the bag. Obadiah Martin settled there in 1795/96.
- Virginia, Founding Fathers: David Crawford, father of Elizabeth Crawford (wife of James Martin) settled in Virginia prior to 1699.
A few other states to pursue after these: North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, and maybe Colorado.
Once I apply for each, I will post the documents I used for others who might want to pursue.
Happy researching!
